Simulation and Impact Analysis of Measures (SWM)

In this WP, the development and evaluation of measures, such as highly automated and connected driving on urban traffic, is carried out with regard to the domains of traffic safety, emission and efficiency. For this purpose, applications from the SAVeNoW project are used with the further developed models from AP VTF and the data from AP DTF through standardized interfaces. To perform the impact analysis of measures, on the one hand the current situation on the road is simulated to generate a reference basis. A distinction is made between macro-, micro-, and submicroscopic depth (see glossary). The simulation results of the different granularity levels can be compared with each other and thus also results from submicroscopic simulations, which due to the complexity only take place in selected road sections, can be extrapolated to the entire Ingolstadt road network. Subsequently, changes (such as the implementation of automated vehicles, or urban planning and traffic engineering measures such as lane free traffic) can be made and the simulations performed again under these conditions. In a before-and-after analysis, statistical tests can then be used to determine the effect. Not only can acute traffic problems be simulatively investigated in “what-if” scenarios, evaluated and options for action identified, but traffic and urban planning can also be carried out and evaluated before measures are implemented. This “future view” can also support policy makers to evaluate measures and traffic guidelines on the complex traffic system (while considering possible side effects of the domains traffic safety, emission and efficiency), as well as decisively contribute to release automated driving functions in certain areas.
